When it comes to athletic families, there are surely few stronger in the UK than the Kearney clan of Merseyside.
Six of the family were picked for their county team for the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships recently and their results included: Ellen-Mary (63rd in the under-13 girls’ race), Aileen (116th in the under-20 women’s race), Ieuan (144th in the under-17 men’s race), and Arran (218th in the under-17 men’s race).
In addition, Emily Kearney was fourth in the Merseyside Championships but unable to run at Prestwold Hall as she is studying in the United States, while their mum, Sarah, was also selected to race and travelled to the event but was unable to run on the day. (© Athletics Weekly, March 2017)
